Sometimes, it is just about the song. What a tender treatment of a deceptively simple song. The pipes, the harmonies, the most tasteful embelleshments to a vocal/piano performance that needed little to improve it. Thank you so much for such a lovely listen.

Lovely track.
I like that you used the bagpipe - I’m a fan of the concept - but don’t think they fit the melody here. Aside from that nag, this is a very beautiful piece. Very tasteful backing to a lovely vocal performance. |
.
I know what you mean about the bagpipes, but I quite like those clashes. More like something going on in the background, rather than a part of the harmony. Wasn’t sure about it tho, so it’ll be interesting to see if other people feel the same as you!
Anyway, thanks for listening and commenting. |

Thanks again, and hope you like the new version. I think you got so much feedback from so many people because it really spoke to so many. And now I feel like you custom-made a version just for me - so I’m a very happy guy. :) Love it. |

Simply beautiful. I believe I understand what you are trying to achieve with those bagpipes. And to a certain degree it works. But it wouldn’t exactly be a lesser effort if you hadn’t used them.

What Bagpipes? (just kidding) -
Beautiful work Old D. - and Cig’s vocals are clean and pure too… Panu can really pen a lyric, can’t he? As for the pipes - to me they added an element of dreamlike theatricality…bagpipes always create an atmosphere of pathos and longing. |

This is a superb piece of work guys.
The pipes threw me a bit as this is such a personal space and it distracted me. I also would not have double tracked Ciggi either in the second part but thats just my call on it. I have never wanted to sing something so badly as this, its not in my key but if i could pretty please ask for the backing. Stunning composition on all levels |

Very nice guys, Panu’s a machine and you both do his ideas justice.
I agree with LS about the double on the chorus - might have been better with oD doing the harmony - the bagpipes are a nice touch. MORE BAGPIPES |

in my short time on ccM i’ve learned that turning a song idea over to seasoned pros will yield a more perfect, simple, & beautiful presentation times ten than could ever be done from here.
this is absolutely beautiful, thank you both! p |

Great lyrics, great backing track and a beautiful delivery by Ciggi.
Seems that sad songs still make people happy! As to the bagpipes…well I think I can see what the intention was as the theme lends itself to some additional relevant sounds. Problem here is they need to be more traditional sounding with a bigger kilt maybe and more to the fore when they do come in. This is probably one of the biggest international conversations going on on the Net about bagpipes at the moment so if nothing else give yourself a pat on the back for that! As to Ciggis vocal doubling yes I agree it would have been nicer to have had your vox instead. So having ripped your mix apart let me just say bagpipes or no bagpipes, doubled vocals or not its still bloody great!! |
.
OK, many thanks to everyone for their input!
So here’s a new version. On the bagpipes the score seems to be 3 for, 3 against, and 3 sitting on the fence - so this version keeps them in, but more discreetly, and keeping out of the way of the vocals. By popular demand (both of them) OD appears on vocals instead of the doubling. The committee meeting is now called to a close, unless there is any other business. |

This new version is fantastic!!
For someone as experienced and talented as yourself to take on board our comments and have the humility to redo the mix is the sign of a great artist! Well done! |

In your illustrious musical career, have you ever undertaken a musical theatre project? If yes, sorry and duh!
If not, … |

If not, … Yes, I’ve done some music for plays - and a small musical (- but don’t apologize!) I’ve always liked working in the atmosphere of a theatre - perhaps because my mother was an actress and I remember the excitement of going backstage as a kid. |

Well, color me only surprised, that you haven’t done more of that. Some of your remixes here (including this one of course) would be outstanding pieces for musical theatre / musicals.

Im Spellbound!..been busy and this really slowed me down..for a moment…this is beautiful..them bagpipes in this distance wow…Great Vocals also!…No this should make some airplay somewhere. I think that the war mongers have no art only strick rules and really they fight for their Freedom from opression i wish they would understand that. Captalism is not the answer either as people fight for their freedom from the dollar and the terrible work enviornments in americas companies dog eat dog. I will listen to this tonight again. A Download for the chill. Again Beautiful…Listen Up World if you have Ears and a Mind! To the Sound of Peace!…Bravo

Late to the party but this is profoundly good. Panu & Ciggi are great together and I love the simple piano changes, and then suddenly that one super complex chord towards the end of the phrase, which makes me realize how not simple it really is. A heartbreaking work… Congrats to all three of you. PS: I am totally on the fence side of bagpipes!!!!
