There’s a combination of cleanliness and grit that always appeals to me- and you just showed me again some territory where this notion can rest beautifully. Yurps, I likes it….

Most of my favorite music over the last 15 or so years has been purely instrumental. This piece is illustrative of one of the reasons why this is so. As an instrumentalist who has sang in choir before and understands the power of voice, I’ve also felt that often the pure sound of non-voice instruments can take a back seat emotionally and mentally to the drawing sound of familiar and even unfamiliar language. The human voice is a social longing. In other ways, musicians who speak without the voice, even electronically, can convey emotions and narratives similarly. The difference can be for me like the difference between what some would call the gap between movies and film. Now a good film is usually a movie, but not always vice-versa if you take a more specific approach to defining film. In my world, the best films share a story that leaves much to be imagined. They lay down a visual and often audial landscape that draws one in and allows the viewer to become a participant. This does not happen through sheer power, but subtle shift. I know this is a long philosophical ramble, but something about this piece hit upon it at this precise moment. It’s one of the reasons I think I remix the way I do. Cheers grapes.
