Great vocals and lyric on this one. The beat really was hypnotically good. The mix was sinewy and fun.
I could imagine a bit more bass in the mix, but that’s a stylistic thing. This mix really came out well! Great listen.

Thanks so much! Re the bass — I experimented with the potential tweaks but any tweaking I attempted to CDK’s original track to enhance certain sounds was not successful — it was already just so good!

Oh, SackJo, this is just fantastic. The adding of Haskel’s rhytmic guitar in genious. The Bass is just fine in my speakers. The whole feel of this laidback soul-ish track makes me think of the Staples singers in their heyday. This is really the best track I’ve heard from you (so far). Love it!

Thanks Per! I’m so glad you Love it! I must admit, I did fight with it a bit — but it was a great way to become more familiar with the software!

Sack, you’ve really come out on this one. great samples, great concept, & just the right boost from one of the most consistently tasteful guitar players on ccM. your song fit perfectly & i bow to your increasingly creative mixtah skills.

Shucks, Mr. Moon. I really try to use each effort as a way of learning and implementing new skills. Thanks to the generosity of the mixters, I have a lot of opportunity to do so!

Thanks for commenting on the guitar. I originally conceived of an overdriven Jeff Beck style thing (or attempt it, anyway). Susan steered me towards keeping it rhythmic, which is where some of the “tasteful” ideas came from.

Very tasty. You’ve blended the flavors perfectly. I’m going to stop listening to others now so this one stays in my head for a while. It feels good there.

totally impressive - sexy and sensual both - yet not without a spiritual enveloping aural blanket…
you sound very fine in this one Susan…and the mixing choices seem perfect. Nice guitar work too!

You sound a bit like Emmylou on this one (a compliment in my book anyway) really cool trippy and folky all at once.

.
permalink   SackJo22 Wed, Nov 4, 2009 @ 9:16 AM
Being compared to Emmylou is a huge compliment in my book too — and I’m not so sure I deserve that honor (she is a goddess of tone and expression, if you ask me). Meanwhile, seeing as I cannot seem to escape my folky roots, as much as I try, I somehow have to embrace them…

but they work so well, especially in this context. I would love to have a softer, more melodic voice sometimes…

Susan, this is simply stunning in so many different ways: the wonderful textured b/t; the vocal line and lyrics; your voice and harmonies; and last but by no means least, Haskel’s skilful contribution. I am so impressed and, like Per, I love it! xxxx

Perfect backing for your vocals. Or perfect vocals for this backing. I think it’s the first one, because you always sound good, but this particular blend of rhythms and ambient sounds make you even better.

Great work.

Mikael, thank you for such a nice review. (Although I am sure I do not always sound so good…)

btw I had Proseco for the first time the other night, and of course, thought of you! It was delicious. I’m ready for more!

whoa whoa whoa!!! This is your finest ccM offering yet (in an already strong catalog!). I totally love this - it’s fun, yet is has soul - it’s old fashioned, yet modern. And the multi-tracked vocals are where you get me every time. So you did it again! And your resident 6 stringer is just magical in this one.

This mix is so good, I seriously fear for my job!

Stellar work! Goes straight to my iPod!

excellent job Susan! cdk throws down a great bed but you tackle his backing hard and throw down a serious track. Ani Difranco’s got nothing on this chick!

also…tasty licks Haskel!

Thanks Victor. Originally, I tried to use your Summertime guitar which I thought would be great to include as it was done as part of a collab with CDK, but I just do not have enough skill to make it work (next time maybe?). Fortuntately, I do have Haskel who didn’t let me down!

Thanks for such nice words. I was incredibly lucky to be assigned CDK whose track was so well produced to begin with. I had to be careful not to mess it up! Also, I have been lucky (and appreciate so much) that many of the mixers/producers at ccM have been sending me production tips because I am really a newbie at all of this.

In first, i just want to say that i’m really sorry to be so late..
In second, it’s that your approach for this track is just..GENIUS..!
That’s really the kind of track that i love to hear when i’m driving in my car and the radio play this kind of music. So, i say: “.sh.t..!, what’s this f..g good piece..Who’s that girl..?..”
It’s very good, very original. Super voices, super groove, super atmosphere, super mix..
And, to realise that, in this place, girls have just taken the power..
