Excellent beginning. Grabs me in right away. Lovely plush feeling that reminds me of so many things I can remember which. The gentle texture and light feel has a pop sensibility alright, but this mix also dishes out its own supply of sunset rain, the kind that drops down heavy and pushes on leaving the low sun to shine on the last falling drops, casting a yellow-orange light all over the canopys of maple and oak. Only wish here is that you would have put a few more dips in the cone and ended differently, perhaps with some long tones instead of a fade; maybe even a longer fade.

Thanks for the considered review, appreciated! I definitely hear your comment about the ending - maybe in a remix :)

This is great. I love combinatin of KT’s piano and hexyl circle. Very summery.

This may be my fav CG mix of all time. I love how airy and wistful she sounds, and since I know all these samples extremely well, I know how meticulously this has been crafted. Just great.

That is high praise Kaer, thanks :) That is the character that attracted me to the vocal. There was a lot of work or me - it took some time to teach myself how to bring all the elements together.

Your arrangement fits the vocals perfectly.

Only gripe is that the sounds you’ve used in the break in the middle come across as a little too harsh for me.

Excellent work despite my “gripe”!!

Thanks radiotimes. Iā€™m curious if you are speaking of the hats and/or piano? In retrospect, I can hear they are driven too hard through some tape-emulation.

What a great remix! A significant amount of detailed sample manipulation work must have gone into this to make it hang together cohesively as a song. Immediately inviting, refreshing and full of positive vibes! I like it!

Good to hear that - I very much wanted it to have a bright and positive vibe. The ccmixter samples did all get warped via Ableton Live, so that they could work together with the MIDI-based grooves. The final mix took a ton of time ā€“ I still wish it had a more transparent and open feel (something I want to learn how to do).

which version Ableton Live are you using? I hear up to version 6 inclusive everyone has a heck of a rough time getting their final mixes out. It seems to be a software issue.

Thanks for the feedback - Ableton Live 7. In the past, with Live 6, I would export all tracks (44.1k, 24bits) and then import them into Logic Express ā€“ that seemed to result in a better sounding mix. However, with Live 7, I had the opposite happen, the mix sounded more pinched and small in Logic Express. However, my feeling is that it is less about fidelity, and more about skilled sculpting of masking and complementary frequencies and space.

yeah - I’m continuously working on upgrading that in my mixes, too :-)

p.s. I assume you have seen the “ Live 7 Audio Fact Sheet” (pdf). I’m not using Live (yet), but found this little entry on fourstone’s blog.

Very beautiful remix. I am glad to have detect it finally. Sounds indeed very airy! A nice song for romantic moments not only for summer season. Very good combination of samples too.

Thanks, duckett. The bass riff and timbre was a good find from you. Interesting that you mention The Sundays - I was just listening to them the other day, thinking about that style for another remix.
