Far out and deep, I love not knowing what this all means right away :)
Each part builds on the next almost subliminally — I get a sensation like a vigil or prayer. Each successive listen, I get a little closer :) |

Thanks for listening more than once. I lived with these samples since last weekend’s storms passed and I could keep the gear powered up ;-)

Was waiting for the band to come in, but in the end I was very glad they took the wrong alley way and never made it. Awesomeness!

Yeah, sometimes there’s an opening for a bari sax or a blues harp, but sometimes there’s just not. The samples took over in this one. In fact, I lifted both the loud click opening part 3 and the heartbeat (mic bump artifact) from the various stems.

Great work! It has a lot of a radio play, like media art. 5.9 pounds? Not quite that easy to digest. First thought: For me, it could even be 6.

Thanks. Some sort of narrative thread emerged even as I was just fixated on the samples, so I ran with it.
Turns out (according to the web site), it’s related to gender and height: “Cremation ashes weigh 4.0 to 5.0 pounds on average for adult females and 6.2 to 7.5 pounds on average for adult males.” Compared to “mountains”. I can’t speculate on the corporeality of angels… |

I am blown away!!!
I have no recollection of uploading Dear Angel so that was a pleasant surprise to start :D Very clean and heartwarming treatment throughout. Thank you so much for this! :D |

Thanks for liking it, and for great raw material. I really enjoyed auditioning and working with your spoken word uploads.
I made a few local notes on the samples and stems, so now that I can like and comment without giving the secret away, I’ll also go back and share those. |

Extraordinary. A creative and cohesive arrangement. I can imagine this work being share live in a multi-media setting — theater, an art gallery. The space, sounds and imagery are evocative and moving. Bravo!

Thanks, Susan. I suppose my “secret sauce” is I’m a sculptor, so I can’t resist structure: it’s gotta stand up, y’know?

an entire film could be constructed around this track. i’m pulled into your realm of Angels and dust, with Joel’s powerful words and voice dragging my heart into honest reckoning. (and wow that xaphon) your combination of Joel’s source into this work of art is, well, spellbinding.

Thanks, Emily. after a bumpy start, I had a great time with it. Joel’s voice is great to work with.

Also, while posting my post-event likes and thanks last night, I couldn’t help but notice you’d gone in to listen to the source files for this and comment on several of Joel’s early submissions. Bravo!
IMO his early vocal work has not yet been used to its potential. Of course, some of that was posted before I’d even done my first remix here. And it’s hard to keep up… I notice several of the entrants dug deep into the past ( Susan’s *first* upload?!?) this time around, and it really highlights the value of the site catalog when that happens! Like the Hidden Treasures event and your Circle of Seasons playlist… …but you know all this ;-) Just, thanks. |
