Assignment: ***Snowflake***
I love the theme of our current Secret Mixter event. If I Remember correctly, we were encouraged at the sign up to melt boundaries and transform our assignment’s source material into something unexpected. The spirit of that idea has always been part of my approach when contributing to the Mixterverse. I suspect that “Mixtermorphosis” is a part of everyone’s creative process at ccMixter. I know I’ve witnessed many, many contributions from our community that were delightfully unexpected and brimming with ingenuity. And, speaking of unexpected, this is only my second time participating in the Secret Mixter event—and both times I have had the outrageously good fortune of having Snowflake’s catalog assigned to me. I’m going to modestly chalk it up to good Karma and wait with amusement until the next assignment arrives for my third participation! My Mixtermorphosis began when I noticed Emily’s pell from “Humanity” and her piano improv “Iron (Piano Improv)” are both in the key of BbM/m. I morphed her main theme from the improv into a midi piano riff—so it might stick out a bit when compared to Snowflakes’ organic, expressive playing. As always, it was a most enjoyable time working with her material. Everyone KNOWS remixing Emily’s vocals is starting way ahead in the Mixter game. She makes it easy to bring quality, classy, and deeply emotive projects to Mixter. Much of what ccMixter/Plus is, is Emily. Thank you, Madame!—and I hope you enjoy what I’ve done here.
