So when I hear a vocal that’s a little lacking in recorded clarity, my instincts are always to fight like hell, and get it sounding clear.
You’ve made the right decision here, to take the low-fi angle and run with it even further here. Giving Panu the muffled filters and then the garage whirly sound on the guitars, making the whole thing a Neo-surf song by a band entertaining the tourists in Tijuana :) |
.
Thanks Admiral! The pull to add another track, add another instrument was strong, but in the end nothing made it shine. It’s just better sometimes to lay low and listen to the story.
Loved your mix btw. Perfect for the road trip back from TJ! |

OK so I’ve heard two remixes so far, and they are jams, not just remixes…lovin’ it! This is a great arrangement that tells a story just like panu always does.

.
Thanks Jeris!
I didn’t have to do much to arrange it..barely moved the vocals from the original upload. I just played the changes and kept it simple. Thanks Panu! Good to have you back in the room btw! Keep ‘em coming. |

Great vocals may benefit from being recorded well but the magic will always shine through.
Well done for carrying the vox on a sympathetic musical bed |
.
Thanks Man! This means a lot coming from you, because you have the same vocal talent…a storytelling voice, rich with magic and unique tone. The mix has to support that or it just doesn’t sound right.

easy to imagine hearing this on the AM radio late at night somewhere in the desert. beautifully done…
|
.
Thanks Panu. I’m going to try listening to it like that. I have a little camp radio that has an 1/8” input, so I can approximate an AM radio station with my phone.
Funny, using a device that has enough computing power to send someone to the moon to replicate a lo-fi transmission. Ha! Anyway, great song man, a pleasure to mix. |

I’m in love with this song, it hold the raw emotion of Panu’s voice in your hands and holds it up to the light of the moon and fireflies for all to gaze upon and enjoy!

I can hear the wolves howling in the mountains as the song fades into the night. Glad you liked it!

Yep, that’s a darn fine song shaped song ya got there.
|
.
Thanks Speck! Usually I cut the vox to fit the song, but this mix was the opposite, arranged around the vox with just a few minor moves.

Dude. This is freakin’ fantastic. Slinky and cool. Excellent groove that completely supports panu’s vox.
|
.
Thanks Kara! Panu tells the story, I just tried to stay out of the way and agree.

Oh. I really like this.
Panu’s composition all the sudden sounds like a classic that could have been written by Lee Hazelwood. Excellent. |
.
Thanks for turning me on to Lee.
Funny, when I took a break from recording, I was listening to Tammy Wynette and George Jones on the record player. They just don’t make recordings like that anymore. Glad you liked it. |

Soulful, country, latin and just cool. Great work.
|
.
Thanks J!
The vocals called for it, and I had to just play it cool and not get too complicated. |

Down home goodness. Music rarely sounds like this anymore — clean, raw, analog. You did a fabulous job setting up Panu’s voice just right. Bravo!
|
.
Thanks Sackjo22!
Getting back to the basics…seems timely. Loved your mix from Admiral, what a team! |

A wonderfully crafted and executed song. It has that mood. Panu’s voice is perfect in this setting.
|
.
I thought so, and it’s good hear that you thought so too.
It’s hard to not do too much, and I had to listen to that voice and just stop trying to look for something that wasn’t there. Like looking for fireflies with a flash light, you gotta turn it off. |

Your guitar skills are out of this realm! Your drum track is perfectly crafted (impressive). A folksy rock song with powerful lyrics that stirs a light within.
|
.
I so wanted to add another guitar line, but I thought it would take away from the authenticity of the track. Less is more is this situation. Glad you liked it.
In my mind I see all of us riding around on fireflies while these mixes are coming in, lol! Thanks for that. |

Nice take on this great tune. I’ve taken a couple of runs at it myself, but nothing worth sharing yet. Love the solo guitar work and the wrap.
|
.
Looking forward to hearing your mix when ready. I was going to fade the wrap and then I was like….hmmmm…it works without a fade. Thanks for listening.
