I took a listen to Franks pella and apart from the vox clipping here and there it’s not an easy one to create a backing track too so I must commend you for putting this together.

The vox and BT do drift a bit and I would like to have heard the vox slightly more up front but you have created some nice chord changes as you followed Franks phrasing.

Top marks for this one as I know it’s not the easiest of pellas to work with despite it being a great performance by Frank

Thanks for your comments RT. I disagree a bit with the timing i think its a classic R & B delivery where the down beat moves There are shades of Luther and other great vocalists in his delivery and for me it works beautifully.

You should hear him sing live the mic does not do him justice.

Its a lot easier to work with than you can imagine the pella is not free form as it sounds but is sung to a drum track. Franks spot on in his timing and anyone should not be put off from having a go.

Thanks again :-)

It’s a pity that the original pella has some distortion, but what counts is Frank’s voice and your music and both are among the best this site has to offer (and it has to offer quite a lot). It’s an aptly titled track.

this hymn was written in the 1700’s by an English sea captain who had spent seven years as a captive on a slave ship. it still has the power to change lives. this is truly one of the best versions i’ve heard.

Another big WOW! Amazing Grace is one of the greatest songs ever written and invariably gets into the heart. Notwithstanding, this version uplifts this song to a new place. The vocal performance (despite technical recording glitches) is crazy amazing, and your arrangement, which I find to be unexepected for this song, but not for you, is stunning. Enough said.

Thanks , just having a vocal this good makes me want to create something new around it. Its not perfect but as an arrangement it has potential. :-)

LS, always know there’s something special awaiting the ears when you’ve mixed a Songboy pella. This doesn’t disappoint - Electric piano, smooth bass and that 80’s ‘love zone’ feel. As classy as always.

I should mention, the ‘love zone’ is a Radio show on Liverpool’s City FM that features such 80’s down tempo classics such as Mr Collin’s ‘In the air tonight’ and Mariah’s ‘Hero’.

Interesting, Blackstreet produced a few gospel type tracks and proved tunes like this can be moved out of the church setting into the mainstream.

Well now. I am not a fan of “Amazing grace” - maybe I heard it a few hundred times too many growing up - or maybe I just never heard it played like this.

I absolutely get the 80s production values - but the fat bass sometimes overpowers the vocals (in my Sennheiser headphones anyway).

That very minor gripe aside, this is a hell of a track.

Thanks Colab, bass noted.

I wondered after doing this how many other ` Hymns ’ might be copyright free to do the same sort of work with.

This is a very very nice arrangement LS. The electric pIano is amazing.. I love the “simplicity” of the instrumentation here. It works perfectly!

Wow. I think I’ll have to ask for the chord progressions for this one. Maybe I could talk the gospel group I’m a part of to attempt this amazing interpetation of this standard. So soulful and smooth and such meditative tone. Once again, LS - I’m reminded why I am such a fan! Well done!

ok, well that was quite a showcase for both of you (not to mention the combination)

I don’t know if it would help folks so it may not be worth your time, but you might consider uploading the MIDI export from the chord harmony part.

I used to have some tools (built into Cool Edit Pro - now Adobe Audition) that could completely clean up the digital distortion in the original.

I may echo colab as for the bass, but I can also echo all other comments on quality and arrangment. Lovely 80s style song!

There’s not much in this world that will shut me up, but this piece made me speechless. To call it brilliant would be an understatement of epic proportions. Mere adjectives are not adequate to describe what you two have done. I’ve heard Amazing Grace done over the past 56 years by literally hundreds of different people. I have never heard it done better than this version. My hat is off to both of you. Now I will stand and applaud.

I really enjoyed this rendition of a classic. I am also a fan of the collaborative mix of Loveshadow and Songboy3. Magic happens when these two come together. To be reminded, go as far as “THE Reason ! (Somthin Special)” by Loveshadow. That song is a regular play on “Morning Coffee With Mario” I will keep a lookout for more from this team. Bravo (again)!
