Is this a club, or merely a pleasant spot in the middle of nowhere at night? I don’t know, but the projections on the sheet someone placed by the bar keep showing me imagery I didn’t believe I would see in the middle of nowhere—lasers and folk idols, all mixed together, like a dark side of the funkiest moon in the most raucous righteous tent in the middle of the valley under the bridge to nowhere.

The electronica touches in the rhythm remind me that every voice has not one perfect accompaniment, but 1,001—all tales waiting to be told, panned through the headphones like indistinct choruses, as the drums beat out a simple syncopation.

I’m swept away by the sense that there is so much richness ready to be ridden, like the waves of sound emitting from a woodwind, into my ear and your ear and all our hearts.

I’m immersed in a spice-rich mix of flavors and sounds—and the voices sing and make me happy. When they cut out, I’m left alone, but alone with my memories, and memories help redeem me.

If I ever feel down and out, I’ll just play your mix again. As Gurdonark wrote: “the voices sing and make me happy.” And you can see people dancing, and you want to join, and you know you won’t be rejected.
