lol - that squeaky chair is hilarious. Kind of befitting the name of the studio! The song is wonderful! Would definitely deserve a re-take by yourself and/or some of the other great talent around here. (Although your impeccable delivery sets a high bar!)

Let’s just say the squeaky chair was just one straw of many, resulting in that final straw that had me calling the owner/engineer for the ProTools files and a “yeah thanks.” Imagine my chagrin upon hearing it today for the first time — after hearing the track after 7 years.

yeah - from a professional studio perspective rather unforgivable to have that chair anywhere near a microphone. So I can understand that you’re miffed. Heck, I have only a small amateur studio and there’s less squeaking going on. :-)
However the song lives - it has it’s own eternal life, separate from the specific recording, and at least as far as I’m concerned, it would highly deserve another shot by your wonderful voice. |

amazing vocal (of course) - but you’ll need to upload the track without the guitar.
|
.
Can’t, unfortunately. It is all of a piece as a live-performance style song demo.

ok. I understand if ccmixter eds need to withdraw it because it’s not within the criteria. I have converted the vocal mic track and uploaded it to see if there’s anything worth salvaging. It’s not like I haven’t performed the song a 1000 times since, so I’m not opposed to re-recording it.

I was going to request the squeaky chair track, because it could be made into sort of retro scratching kind of loop thing. :-)

The pella track you have added is perfectly usable. I have heard worse headphone bleed on Abbey Road recordings.
Enticing tone you have delivered on this one. I wonder just what your range is :-) |

let’s just say this beats the pants off of Dar Williams & the other darlings of the new folk movement, chair & all. plus you’ve beat B. Dylan to the punch, if he gets to hear it, he’ll be incorporating ambience before you know it.

.
thank you, panu. it’s high praise. Sometimes I feel I was either born too late or too early for my aesthetic to really “take off.” I was either the little kid tagging along with the folkies at the coffee house or so geekily ahead of my time as to merely be considered odd. I listen to some of the so-called darlings of the new folk movement and sometimes wonder where everyone’s ears and heart have fled.

Incredibly beautiful.

.
Thank you, Ciggi - This was one of those songs that came down - all of a piece. I originally wrote it for fiddle, mandolin and banjo, but I have also heard it in my mind’s ear with that sort of Led Zep folk treatment - power chords and all.

Your voice is just outstanding - no question about it - and I feel lucky to have discovered you on this site.

This is great. It would be a crime to remix it as, in essence, it’s complete. The colour and texture of the voice is magical. A very lovely piece. Also, you’ve got the best avatar that I’ve seen on this site.
