Yet another intelligent, capable mix. You really made the diverse samples fit here. I like the way you got a really cool electro sound, and yet it all sounds non-robotic.

Here my suggestion is to do with the dynamics of the piece. You’ve got all these great musical passages, but they don’t leap out at the listener in the way the ‘pella does. I see that you’ve turned up the ‘pella in response to an earlier comment, but I think that you can both feature the ‘pella and get a crisper, more dominating sound from the accompaiment.

I know how hard it is to make the music and the words “fit” together, and sometimes the music has to be subservient to make the words audible. But I think a little knob-twiddling (or, in my case, the virtual softstudio equivalent) might have yielded a crisper, “louder” acccompaniment.
But I don’t say that implying I could do any better—indeed, I wish I could do a proper mix like this, and I’m not sure I could at all. Great job in making this into a new song in starting from very unlikely yet perfect samples.

Thanks very much for the perceptive comments. It’s hard to get the balance you describe (but I’m beginning to realize that’s what the skill of mixing is all about). I think I could do more with some compression of the rhythmic loops - to be honest, I had to keep some of the vocal bits down to disguise the fact that they don’t always work with the pella! - it’s like I’m making an illusion that they belong together - and I didn’t want them to dominate. One of the great things about your mixes is that you’re not afraid to leave lots of space, I think I need to learn that.
