Amazing production skills! The depth you’ve added to this mix is incredible.
Because of the effects and layering you use, I honestly thought this was a live recording.

ps Any chance to get the bass and drums without reverb? :)

Thanks, Apoxode!

I’ll have to re-record them later and let you know when they’re uploaded. They’ll be a slightly different take because there’s some subtle randomness in the synth to make it sound more “acoustic”. I’ll also separate the drum into dry snare and bass drum tracks.

Okay, as requested, dry drum samples have been uploaded. The bass was technically already “dry,” but it was Karplus-Strong with a really long decay/release/feedback cycle, so what I’ve done for that is upload a take with shorter hits.

Whoa, that’s awesome! You went above and beyond, I really appreciate that :)
Thank you for your dedication, Dominique, this is exemplary

I, as a big fan of The Internationale, congratulate you for the version you’ve done. The instruments sound something like futuristic I almost imagine a fully electronic republic with that song as some sort of a national anthem!
Talking about that, I’ve made many translations and versions of it. Some with the socialist idealism, some not, Some for a fictitious country.
BTW what DAW you’ve used to compose it? what instruments did you use to compose it? can you create a midi file?
BTW, I’ve made a recent Spanish version of the Internationale on this page:

The page is huge, since it has many, many translations of the song, even there’s some in Latin and Ancient Greek! I like the second latin version better, it rhymes and has rhythm.
Salutations from The Internationale fan!

Thank you, Luis! And thank you for sharing that page with all the translations and adaptations; that’s wonderful.

Almost everything I did for this recording I did in VCV Rack. I used Ardour a little, but only to record the vocals and then organize all the tracks I had recorded so I could send them back to VCV Rack for a final mixdown. The “wind” instruments are noise through a band-pass filter imitating Mutable Instruments Ripples, the “organ” is a Moog-like square wave through a filter (Vult Vortex) that mimics the filter on the Soviet Polivoks synths, the bass is Karplus-Strong (using the Vult Rescomb 2 comb filter), and the snare and bass drum are dedicated drum modules (VCV Snare and Vult Trummor 2 respectively) with parameters set to taste. The “lead” synth voice is just a sine wave with a lot of tremolo and chorus. For the final mix I also applied a bunch of chorus and reverb to my vocals.

Unfortunately, the piano roll module I used for arranging the instruments in VCV Rack doesn’t actually seem to have implemented MIDI export, although it does have MIDI import… I’ve filed a feature request for MIDI export. In the meantime I have uploaded the VCV Rack patch file to Patchstorage: https://patchstorage.com/wake-up-linternationale/

Wow interesting information! I was asking that since I have a DAW that works with midi. Mostely I’m using Reaper with a bit of a program called Quick Windows Sequencer to compose and save midi so I can improove this version, since I have some versions of the song and I want this one to be added on my list :d. Thanks for the internationale patch, gonna download it.
Will send questions for other things in your eMail.
Ah, sorry to ask again, but what edition of VCV Rack you’ve used to compose this version? Or was the free or was the pro?

I used the free version of VCV Rack 2, but I used some commercial plugins that I’ve bought over time, so unfortunately you might have to try to replace or work around those modules. I listed those plugins on the Patchstorage page.

Ah ok I see. Recently I’ve sent an eMail to VCV about accessibility, since it’s not accessible with my screen reader. That’s also why I’m asking about midi export on the meantime.
After that I’ll upload a mix of your version with a translation that one of my linguistic friends made in a constructed language.

Awesome, good luck! I’m sorry to hear that VCV Rack isn’t working well with the screen reader. There should be a way for the VCV team to implement that analagous to the way someone could browse and operate a Eurorack system by touch. If I ever get that MIDI file put together I’ll upload it here.

I have uploaded the MIDI now; it’s in the downloadable files. Tried to give it some sensible channel assignments and metadata using the Rosegarden notation editor.

Okay, I re-uploaded just now XD

I didn’t like how some instruments sounded in timidity so I edited some channel data.

Thanks very, very, very, very much for the midi file! Sorry for responding a year since we talked. I’m composing a spanish version based on your english translation. The text of it is not yet uploaded yet. There’s 2 or so new spanish versions of the Internationale I’ve sent to the website approximately 1 year ago, although I have a file containing almost 30 spanish versions! The majority I’ve composed myself, others are adaptations or parodies of the song…
Recently I’ve made an anti-mining version since we in Panama are in protest about a mining contract, although not yet published still I have it on my computer. Keep dooing work as soon as it is released I’ll make a translation of it!
