the beats are pretty cool and I love the arrangement overall but the mix is missing some of the highs, the vocals for example are not really ‘alive’ — does that make sense?

well, I’m still fumbling around with stuff myself most of the time but this article helps me a lot. Especially the vocals section where he says “Carefully enhance the delicate high end around 15khz to add air and sheen and don’t overdo it!”
