Bell-like keyboard tones and a promising deeper pad alternate with drones. Then the beats roll into place to support the rap. The sound is hard and yet clean. The beat is way up, which is perhaps more dancefloor than headphone.
When we get to the cinematic break back into the mellow sound, it’s a nice transition, with the sustain/chorus-y backing drone sound working very well. This mix works because it combines disparate things effectively into something that surprises and holds the interest. For me, the beats were “up” too far in the mix, but if it had been Friday night with the glittering ball, uh, well, glittering, then it was probably just about what I would have wanted, sound-wise. It might have been good to have an instrumental of the dance beat break up her vocals, and use that bell-tone-like keyboard in a raucous way to “solo” in this imaginary new-mid-section. This mix was interesting, and a fun listen. |
