Ooo… minimalist… great bass line… nice, airy guitar additions… and I believe I hear some of your famous vocal scatting in the background? (I’d turn it up in the mix! It’s awesome!) Crazycool, indeed! :) Thanks for remixing our vox, friend!

p.s. I must ask- who is zajo (from the featuring section)?

I meant to add zajo (from freesound) he provided the great beat for the track :) I’m glad you liked it. I haven’t played bass in a long time so my riffs are a little loose but I think it worked :) Thanks as always for the encouraging words!
Cheers!

that would be an understatement

oops, sorry, misleading quote (2 reference points), ‘it worked’ is the understatement, as it worked very well

Hehe :-) I had a feeling thats what you meant :-) That compliment means a lot coming from a master-constructor/deconstructor of sound. This song sort of lead me to building the bass first. What sample or section of a mix do you start with?
Cheers!

the idea comes as a mix readily laid out in my head.
being very much into drums/percussion i usually start the realisation with those - the thing is i don’t really play an instrument, at least not a real one, so it’s all midi construction.
then bass line or melody elements, no particular order there. i rarely start with the samples i use.
i end up with something that more or less (usually less) resembles the initial idea, often using samples i didn’t think of when i started. i suppose that’s the beauty and power of creation.

Very interesting. I often hear ‘parts’ but not the whole although I usually have a very clear feeling that I want to get across. I just love the creative process! Anyways here’s to a billion different ways to creating a billion beautiful musical moments!
Cheers!

That should make Kara and crew happy :-) Team Smile and Nod 24/7!! I’m glad you enjoyed it. I recently started mixing again so I think I am ‘reset’ to simplicity. I usually don’t do much in the way of guitar tone but I really had fun with this one :-) Anyway have a great one!
Cheers!

This beauty of a song had a great sense of style and when that is the case I just try not stand in the way :-) I’m glad it allowed you to groove. My young son can’t stop running around the house screaming “YEAH!!”. If we could all be so :-)
Cheers!

That’s just completely awesome. When Rich and I started collaborating (2004), his son was quite young. He couldn’t speak understandable words, yet… But he could sing! He would sing the “ooo-ahhh!” parts of this track. This is one of my favorite musical memories.

Thanks! I think it is the only necessary and sometimes the most elusive part of a track… the groove. It’s too bad there isn’t a groove button on my music making machine… I guess that would take the fun out of it anyway :-)
Cheers!

Has that ‘almost at the end of an all night drive’ pre-dawn mellow. Very cool.

For a long time in my life I did most of my musical musings between 1-5am. I guess it’s ‘home’ for me :-) that reminds me I was going to upload a very mellow track that I wrote sometime ago called ‘Hurtling Yourself Toward the Dawn’. Thank you for the kind words and always for the poignant imagery!
Cheers!

Love how you handled the “la la las” which are one of my favorite part of this song — wonderful clean sounding arrangement. Bravo!

I didn’t do much to the ‘la la la’s I thought they were what really make the original pell… well… sing!
Thanks for the encouragement!
Cheers!
