Stereotypically lazy, illiterate, and/or simple-minded characters: In early film, TV and radio, African-Americans appeared almost exclusively in roles of servitude, many stereotypically dumb servants. The character Rochester was an example. Christine’s poetry provided an envelope within which to focus on the way the film, TV and radio characters like Rochester were written and portrayed.
After co-opting Chirstine’s work for some of our own messaging, we created another remix Straight Outta Taos which features Chistine’s work in a stand alone manner.
