The Sale is Over

I saw god
in the carpark of a shopping mall
he said
“son I got your number
from a bathroom wall”

“Just take a look at me
your life is mine from what I see
throw away that credit card
it buys you nothing you can keep”

I tried to look out the window
wasn’t proud of what I saw
reflection looking back me
asking for some more
Thought I knew what kind of man I’ll be
when moneys not my hoare
I left the building way soon
my fingers in the door

Strip back my clothes
there’s man whose faking for goodness sakn
waiting for the truth to show
things I should know
but I spent it hating
times not waiting
to let my feelings show

I said to him
“it must be cold outside when living rough
with some cardboard for a blanket
and a shopping cart
come inside
I’ll give you all the things I bought”
he said
“thanks but no thanks
you do not have the things I want”
