The roller skate is older than the United States Constitution. In my childhood, the roller skating rink was in a metal-side building by the small town airport. One rolled around the track while the jukebox spun out songs like “Yellow Submarine”. I find freedom in the sound of a skate wheel hitting the floor in time to a beat.

Pop music often dwells on love or romance or longing or darkness. Some simple thrills, though, cannot really be bought and are not primal, but require rolling wheels and a good sense of balance.
