I'd Heard The Last Bird Sing

I have taken Anchors rich voice and tweaked it here and there but it is a great piece of singing.
The original idea was for me to sing the lines of the song but the rich accompaniment would not allow it, so I tried them with the spoken word but that also did not feel right. In the end I persuaded my daughter to recite them and then stretched the words. She was not impressed! People keep asking if the time is now here when all racial problems will be resolved. I would like to be positive but history can sometimes be a cruel teacher When the summer shuns its people and the winter hides the calm In the streets of hope and circumstance the love has come to harm Its granting peace and common sense a million pieces strong But you and I we’re drifting on the words we brought along In the naked light of fear and pain we see the humbled land Bare and crushed and empty like it was when we began You told me we had reached the place where love is everything But I was deaf and ignorant I’d heard the last bird sing.
