It was a great track to start with :) I am glad you enjoyed it… I’ve been looking for an excuse to record a crappy megaphone through a really good mic :) Thank again for the compliment.
Cheers!

An actual megaphone, not a megaphone effect? Nice!

Yeah, I’m low tech all the way baby! You can hear the rapid fire trigger sound just before the spoken-word starts. I was quite surprised by the sound, especially the attack which was much louder than the rest. I was recording at a low megaphone volume (3 of 10 I think) so there may have been some ‘natural’ voice bleeding in too. Anyway where would be without experimentation right? :-)
Cheers!

Quote: KungFu…the rapid fire trigger sound just before the spoken-word starts.I heard that as you winding yourself up, like the music box.

Oh and I do like winding my self up. I am really bad for publishing stems of my remixes but I can certainly try if there is interest :-) Keep up the great work Speck I thoroughly enjoy your work and your very positive influence in this community of ours here :-)
Cheers!

I did smile - throughout. I like your writing, I like the fit. Your vocal delivery is very cool. Bouroughs-esque cool, without the slurring. Oh, no wait, I got it now, the dogs voice-over in A Boy And His Dog.

Thanks for doing this. Much enjoyed.

It was my pleasure working with such a great piece so rich in texture and creative tension. The poems were written while I worked with some pretty real characters and some of the trigger or seed lines were actual phrases or conversations I over heard while supporting these folks who were usually very high or very drunk or both. It should be noted that I worked in Recovery, a short term detox of sorts, certainly most of the folk who found themselves homeless were not addicts :-) Anyway, I digress. Thanks for a great track!
Cheers!

This is great — really works for me. You got a kool voice mein Herr and it sounds well here. I think Speck’s original is a good vehicle for spoken-word.

I completely agree. There is lots of space to play with that track. It’s one of the hallmarks of a great track in which the ‘final’ piece has room to add something but shows the restraint not to add anything more. I think its called the Lou Reed philosophy :-) Its how I feel about your Phatman track. I started recording a bunch of complicated additions and found nothing was better than the original. That being said I may publish my discoveries soon if I can get some of my paying work done first :-)
Cheers!

Yeah, you’ve identified a major issue: some tracks are great and make you want to join in, but then you think, “Mmm, what can I actually bring to this?” I feel like this a lot, but I post stuff anyway (with stems), figuring that someone else might make it work or do something completely different with the raw material. If we got half a dozen Mixters in the same room and jammed, then I guess everything would find its own level and maybe grow organically. I guess I think that ccMixter is a great resource for producers who can see/hear the latent possibilities in a bunch of samples.

I know exactly what you mean. It is some of the beautiful tension and texture of this site. You have such a large and solid collection of work that it was a little surprising that you had any submission struggles at all :-) Anyway, onward and upward!
Cheers!

An excellent marriage of writing and music. I’d like it a lot if you’d post your words so that I could read while I listen - a double enjoyment of something very good!

That’s great, thank you. Those words are worth being able to ponder and linger over. Extremely good writing, KF.
