Process

Well... Some cold day in December 2011 we had this terrible (albeit not new) idea of gating female vocals, then shifting pitches and formants like crazy of the remaining snippets. We searched quite a bit for pellas, it didnĀ“t work just right from scratch though. With snowflakes 'Hot Core' we found something great to work with (as usual!). Next was the base beat which is a really lame half-time beat in itself but the snare drum kicked much ass. To help it another cruel idea came to mind in gating sturdy dub step loops into tiny sole fractions and to process these with a lethal dose of plug-in sorcery. Together with the main beat it blended really well and created this encircling rage of madness. In the meantime we layered at least three pad sound harmonies on top of each other, a very woollen matter which can lead to suffocation if not done carefully.

Then this track was abandoned for other projects, it laid dormant for some months. We knew we had to finish it but we were anxious knowing the beast which we had created there. Finally some days ago, in preparation of collecting and working on the final pieces of our end 2012 album we took all our strength together, received magic spells from the grand marshal and finished the production. It was mainly a matter of arranging the sections properly and to mix it really hard without losing the inherent soft-ness and dynamics from the synth parts - which meant it was a meticulous task of macro and micro nudging all sorts of automation parameters.

Other Notes

Keeping the balance between hard kicking and soft pushing was not easy. Several times the mix felt over to the one or other side and ruined the whole track. The atmosphere is hard to describe. It is as sweet as it is poisonous at the same time. Cold and warm. Black and white. Yin & Yang. Odd style for sure. That's how we like it. :-)
