Maajonic's Dream Wish pella and the midi piano track from Admiral Bob's For The Morning sample pack.

Original Samples

Process

From The Admiral's For The Morning sample pack I only used the midi piano track, which I changed into something in the key of A minor harmonic. I did the same with Maajonic's Dream Wish pella. Played at a considerably lower tempo (when compared with The Admiral's original tune) it has a completely different feel.

After that I added the flute and (later on) oboe phrase, electronic percussion from Animated Circuits and some synth sounds from Reaktor Prism.

Because I felt that the song was too long and / or had not enough going on, I decided to remove the second chorus. This meant that a synth playing the same phrase as the flute and oboe had to go, but also that I didn't have to correct some timing issues with the vocals in that second chorus.

I almost forgot to mention that I had to cut up the vocals, because I had twice as much measures for the piano track than for the vocals. This way I could spread them out evenly. There were some 'overlapping' vowels, which made it sound unnatural at times, but I hope that I managed to mask that with reverb on the vocals and the addition of other sounds.

Other Notes

It was funny to notice how leaving out the second chorus led to the feeling that the song actually worked, whereas originally I was in doubt if I should upload it. Ofcourse the idea came to me after I shut down my computer and went to bed. I should lie down more...
