“When the breath of twilight blows to flame the misty skies,

All its vaporous sapphire, violet glow, and silver gleam,

With their magic flood me through the gateway of the eyes;

I am one with the twilight’s dream”,
from “By the Margin of the Great Deep”, by George William Russell [AE]

We live in a subdivision called Glendover Park. A developer built comfortable tract homes of red and sometimes yellow brick, and donated a small park adjacent to the subdivision with a pond, somet trees and a small place to play sports.

We like where we live quite well. We walk to the park, and around its small pond. On Summer days, beautiful tropical birds called scissor-tailed flycatcher, with improbably long tail feathers, hover in mid-air, capturing insects.

When darkness falls, fireflies, referred to here as ‘lightning bugs’, begin to emit their intermittent glow. We walk among them, watching the light flash on here, and then on, over there. When I was a boy in a town in the rural southern USA, I believe we saw more fireflies than we see now. Kids would try to capture a group of them in small “Dixie’ cups back then, to make
natural lanterns. The lanterns worked far better on the mental drawing board than in actuality.
Fireflies, you see, want to be free to glow.

In addition to the sample creators credited in this remix, I’d like to give a special thanks to two software creators. Bram Bos from the Netherlands created the simple 30 dollar Tunafish sequencer, http://www.brambos.com/ , which I used to sequence this piece.
Tunafish is perhaps the simplest-to-use full-featured host for VST software synthesizers.
Benoit Serrano, of France, http://bserrano.free.fr/, created Adonis-2, a donate-what-you-will VST synthesizer which I found a great help in composing this song.
Software developers who create free or low-cost musical devices help us bring to pass a new digital velvet musical revolution.
With a computer and a modest sum of additional money, one can glow.
