I like the way your intro drone comes in. It’s a good use of the ambience you have on board here. When your percussion comes in, though, a bit after 1, it doesn’t quite fit with the ambience. To my ears, it overwhelms it a bit, and the piece loses some integration.
Still, you’ve got a great melody in, albeit one for which softer beats or no beats might work better, as does in fact happen when the beats cease. The melody with the noise drone atmospheric that picks up from there is a very nice touch. It’s solid, and it integrates the melody and the ambient flourishes well. It might have been tempting to slow this passage down, to get the full effect of that horn sound, but that’s a quibble. Then you pick back up with that great melody, weighed down a bit by the beats, but with the solid melodic integration, other than the beats. Some introduced vocal samples or other effect rather than the beats might work better, or the beats might be better as electronica techno-beats. Still, this is a very good listen, done in only by its percussion, and I enjoyed it very much. |

gurdo nails it. the lushness of the drones gets beaten down by the beats. they just overpower the mix. the rest of the mix is excellent.
