Thanks for continuing to make the CCworld safe for ambient material.. I was wondering what the deal was until I read the description, what a great idea! I’m thinking of doing a series based on freesound, where I enter a non-sound based search word (like “frost”, etc.) where I get at least 5 results, and using them in ambient pieces titled by the search word… keep doing your thing!
|
.
It would be fun to do a project in which five freesound samples were selected at random, and the remixers then had to sequence, sample, and morph the samples into a song.
thanks for commenting on this one—i love your idea of searching words like “frost” and then using the results. |

genius! this is remix of the day today on csongs. thank you! x

Thanks very much. I appreciate the kind words. It’s always a bit of a risk to take something as personal as someone else’s ‘pella and completely change it—and I’m grateful for your kindness in not minding.
As I listen to it, I wonder if it would have been more fun with just keyboard and vox, but the wonderful thing about this process is that all I have to do is change my recording a bit to find out :). My next project with your work should be in the video line, as I’ve meant for some time to put one together. |

This is a very cool idea. It is very interesting to me to see someone taking a song and making it into something else. That takes a bit of courage, which I greatly admire. A friend of mine says you should never be afraid to throw your art out into the world because it will find it’s audience. How wonderful that even the songwriter herself has already joined the group for this one.
Very nice work and your notes are outstanding. |

Thank you for your kind words. I find that finding listeners in one’s own niche is never difficult if one has the right vision of where one is going. Here on the mixter, I tend to move outside my usual genre(s) a bit, to stretch and learn. In general, though, my things, despite being very niche, seem to find listeners. That certainly supports your friend’s quotable above.
I am grateful to calendargirl, who understood the fun in this kind of alternative approach to her work. I’m also grateful to you for sharing your thoughts. |

Im telling you dude you are hands down the most vivd sprit here, I dont know how you dont go insane, ummm maybe you are though.
Besides that G I know your style is very unique and I def enjoy your moods and ideas you’ve allways given to us to enjoy, Ive said this before “you paint pictures with your sounds and music” and that is very very important** I will say my favorite part is the sprinklers and I say the only thing I found pulling out of the norm was the birds constant vivdness I would like to hear them fade as if they moved on and new ones fly in to take their places, but that is just me given some love. well awsome work Matthew |
.
Thanks, Matthew. In particular, thanks for helping me to conceptualize a better way to handle those birds. I seem to be running an aviary lately, which is fine, but your idea would have been a great way to handle it more effectively with the voices in the mix.
I believe I do compose with a “visual” component, and with a story, although I do create ambient music of my own sometimes which is intended to be sound sans story. I really appreciate your comment, nad in particular the criticism, which I found constructive. I find myself with more ideas than skill, often, and it’s fun to trade ideas with others. best, robert |

I think that in first, a good ‘remix’, is a new idea..a surprising idea..And you have had a good idea. Just a reminder for each of us that a song is in first a ‘story’ and the music is, sometimes, already in the words. One more time..Great Work..!

Love what you did here G. Love the birds. Your remixes always seem to make me feel like I’m actually there.
Jayson also loves hearing his voice on ccMixter as well. Sorry it took so long to review this but i’ve been doing that damn “work thing”. Keep up the good work my friend. |
.
Thanks for the review. I have had a week of a lot of work stress, so believe me I understand about the work thing. The “good” thing for me is that big deals include big insomnia, and thus I can remix :).
Jayson’s part of this was great! He really was a champ to pitch in on this thing, and please tell him I think he’s great. |

It’s lovely Gudonark. Delicate, whimsical and sublime…like a suburban updated version of Caroll’s Alice.
Nice work. n9 |

Yes, I like that image—Carroll’s Alice is very apt for what I’m going for. I imagine Carroll reading as the keyboard plays and crickets sing. I had said “denis thatcher’, not as a political statement of any kind, but as an image of the old guard, on the back lawn, minding its own business. Thanks for the review!
