Lovely music, and a lovely description.
You have managed that rare feat of creating something that appears to be chaotic and random at the surface, yet follows a set of rules and patterns at its core, making this great coherent piece. Very nice. |

Wild acid jazz… probably going on my next show. :)

I’m not an expert (although I do have a series of compilation CDs called This Is Acid Jazz), but - acid jazz is not jazz on acid. It’s a usually mellow r&b/soul groove with simple jazz riffs, sometimes sampled from the classics, dubbed in (or played). Like this.

yes, that’s about it. didn’t have much to do with jazz (although i wouldn’t be an expert on jazz) - more with acid, which in turn refers to the tb303 sounds that were quite fashionable at some stage

I’ve always wondered why it’s called acid jazz. Couldn’t quite pin it down in a search except that it comes from a popular club music genre called acid house. So still I wonder - why acid house, or why the word acid is connected to the 303. (Cool link by the way, only the second Fatboy Slim track I’ve ever heard and makes me want to hear more.) Is it ultimately a drug reference?

i reckon it’s intentionally ambivalent - can refer to the acid-like sound of an overdriven tb303 or drugs. drugs sell, there used to be a serires of trip hop samplers called Dope On Plastic and Dope On Demand.
