Cool as a cucumber. I’m a big fan of your spoken word voice (and your voice in general, of course). The lyrics are top notch as usual. The whole concept for this song is awesome. Fantastic bass line. Love Haskel’s guitar work. Excellent all around!
Productions thoughts- I would try to eq the highs down on the opening synth (I know it’s part of CDK’s fully mixed track, so I’m not sure how it would work). Also, your spoken word voice gets overpowered- I’d turn it up a bit or compress it. I think vocal levels are the hardest ever as a vocalist (my main vox on the song I just posted was way too loud…). |

I’d bring the vocal up a shade, or dupe & pan out wider. Good track, SackJo.

This is a fine song and kudos for asking for help on the engineering.
Your problem starts with the opening synth which needs eqing down. If you have an audio analyser on your set up check the point at which the synth sits and using a small Q pull it down slightly. You can also put a small amount of compression on the master output to tame the highs and lows. On the vocal try sending the vox to a bus in addition to the main track and add a high pass filter to remove most of the lows. Blend this with the main vox and the additional highs should help to get the vox to cut through the mix. You can also power up the vocal by adding a saturation plug in on another bus. If you do not have one add a distortion plugin with the distortion level set to off. You’ll need to play about with all this but it should help to give more presence to the vox without having to dumb down the BT too much. **Thanks for the Ed Pick..much appreciated! |

Thank you so very much for this detailed input. I tweaked the mix accordingly. I used a shelf eq on the instrumental bed to lessen the sharpness of the synths (it’s a premixed track so I am not able to isolate the synths). Then I used the high pass filter as you suggested. Hopefully this is a better sounding pass.
I really do appreciate the time you took to listen and to provide specific feedback. I am invested in improving my production skills and your input really helped. |

The very first verse you were singing slightly behind the beat which I love. It’s kind of tough when you work with an overall mix but all and all it’s all good.
Haskel’s guitar work is amazing as always but some of the guitar hits seem to stick out a bit too much and my ear is drawn to them rather then just listening to the overall mix. That being said, it’s an excellent track |

i love the mix of spoken word verses and sung choruses. the second verse combining them keeps my interest going deeper (pun intended LOL). Haskel’s solo is delicious!!
