I like that opening synth line. Orchestral but not “just” trad and tried orchestra strings. It’s a pretty minute:15 with which to begin the song but I might have gone shorter and then repeated the theme later.
The poem vocal fx don’t work for me. I don’t mind distorting a bit, but it sounds a bit much like fx for their own sake. Then your bass and strings melody picks up, and it’s really good. If you’d gone with a spare, less fx vocal between these musical interludes, it would work better. The guitar line is really great. I’d rather hear this more than the distorted poem. I like the little bongo sound. Fits right where it’s placed. This has a nice post-rock downtempo thing going, and would have done better as an instrumental, perhaps with some freesound loops to leaven out the mix. I like the spoken word pella, but I don’t think it’s what makes your piece work. I think that you could reconfigure this, cut the intro to :40, bring us the guitar earlier in, do more guitar lines, intersperse percussion-only sections, and have a tighter song. But this is a darn good listen, and I enjoyed it. |
