If you’re open to some advice (not that I’m the most qualified person to offer it) - I’d up the volume on the vocals, they’re quite good and nothing to be shy about. And maybe reduce the bass a little.
Also - the player here won’t work if the mp3 preview isn’t the first thing in the list of uploads. You can drag it there under ‘manage files’. Also - welcome. And thanks for sharing. |

Hey Speck! Thanks for sharing the mp3 tip! I just reordered it for them. (LeXistenZiaLisM — I was able to do that since I’m an admin.)

Thank you! I posted these stems, wondered why the preview didn’t work but shrugged since I noticed it worked on the beta site (which, maybe I’m just being nostalgic, but it isn’t as charming aesthetics-wise… only my humble opinion though haha), then pretty much went straight to bed as I have to be up early in the morning for work - and, well, it’s “early in the morning” now lol!

Hi Speck,
In sharing, I open myself up to all sorts of criticism - I can only hope it’s constructive at the end of the day, which I’d say yours is, and I appreciate it. I will be upfront and say mixing/mastering/”engineering” is probably my least favourite aspect of creating music. Rather than attempt to over-analyse why that might be, I’m trying to simply get more comfortable with it using the tools I have at my disposal right now. I’m kinda biased and did want the bass to be this sort of “driving force”, but not so much that it muddies or drowns out all else in the track, so I will mull this over. Lots of thoughts, barely awake right now. Need my coffee (making now). Thank you for sharing your suggestions. |

Yeah, constructive is the only kind of criticism you’re going to get here. And very little of that. It’s a very welcoming place. I don’t usually even do constructive criticism, as I don’t consider myself in any way an expert. I would rather hear an imperfect mix that makes me feel something than a perfect mix that doesn’t. It’s all pretty subjective anyway. (Well, up to a point.)

I appreciate it nonetheless. I think anything that helps someone refine their craft without it losing its soul is worth a lot. Your track pierced my heart and took me back. I’m very sorry you lost your grandfather on Christmas Day. I lost my mom on New Year’s Eve over 20 years ago now, but still, it always hits hard. There’s something about losing your loved one on a holiday that makes it especially hard… you can’t separate it. But then, you never forget it. And that turns out to be beautiful. (At least it has for me.)
Thank you for sharing these stems. Your voice is great. And thank you for joining us. |

Hi Kara,
I’m sorry to hear about your mum. Thank you for sharing, it does make me feel less alone. And it means the world and more to me that my track resonates with you. I’ll never forget that one of the nurses that had been caring for my grandfather in his final days told us, when it happened, that only truly special souls go to heaven on Christmas Day. I thought it was sweet of her to say, and I’m trying to hold onto that idea as I go through life for the remainder of this year. As an aside, working part-time in the retail sector, it’s not even December yet and all the trees and wreaths and lights are already up, so… yeah, does feel weird. Which I expected but I don’t think any amount of mental preparation could’ve primed me for… well, everything I’m feeling lately. I wanted to take that and do something with it. Thanks for having me. I’m looking forward to sharing more when it’s ready. |

Excellent first upload; welcome Lex!
Imma dare to disagree with Speck (love you bro).. I think the vocals being a little submerged (not quite drowned-out) has a nice texture. Portishead did that from time to time… |

Hi mwic,
Thanks! It’s all good, I appreciate Speck’s suggestions for what they are. This has all been a learning process for me and I’m glad this community exists. I’m also glad you seem to enjoy how the vocals sit in the mix. Overall, I’m finding all of this feedback interesting and worthy of consideration, even if it maybe doesn’t all agree with each other. |

Nailed it! Perfect upload, high quality all the way. No issues with file extraction.
The CC-BY-SA is not an available license here primarily because it isn’t compatible with CC-BY-NC. We defer to the most strict license (CC-BY-NC) and therefore, the CC-BY-SA could not be remixed with anything other than CC-BY-SA. To prevent that, we removed the option. My recommendation is to include a note after the request for non-ai usage that asks to maintain the CC-BY license in any remixes. The only reason this couldn’t happen is if your material was remixed with something licensed as CC-BY-NC. |

Thank you! That’s great, I’m glad to hear that on both counts.
Re: the license - that is fair enough! I don’t wish to step on any toes and my heart isn’t set on ShareAlike. I’ll simply amend the description to remove reference to it. Giving it further thought, it’s probably more ideal for me to release under as flexible a license as possible anyway, and it’s certainly no skin off my nose to do so. |
