Wow that was fast work! This song went from an idea to a finished track in less than 24 hours!

OK, a massive Thank You for working on this. You really “get” my stuff and I’m very happy to hear this. You add a great vibe while giving the vocals and guitar plenty of space.

Very nice what you did with the chorus—really lifts it and supports the original vocal nicely.

And I really love the percussion and, well, the whole thing!

Thanks again. Cool track.

Keep sending them :-) I guess we have a similar sound so I always have a thousand ideas that I haven’t used for my guitar and voice :-) I am glad you enjoy them
Cheers!

We really should start the ccMixter virtual band. There so many natural blends of voices, styles, and musical intent :-)
Cheers!

I had a listen to the Ja-vo track to understand your contribute: fantastic multi-vocal chorus, percussion and oboe (or whatever it is). some fxs here and there. Chill!

It the Xaphoon :-) It’s a ‘pocket sax’ that is basically a reeded bloc flute (recorder). I love ‘massaging’ the original work into something new. I don’t know if it’s remixing but I am always surprised by the outcome :-) thanks for your kind words!
Cheers!

The xaphoon you say - that’d be a swell stem to have. Any chance to upload it?

I am testing out a new mic today so I’ll upload the former stems and the new recordings soon :-)

Beautiful work I just want to sit outside and listen it once again. Shame that is still so cold:(

Just turn down the heat a bit and pretend :-) I always love the very specific context to how we hear music. It always makes me smile :-)
Cheers!

What a great compliment :-) I was a music therapist in a former life so I am glad I can still translate a bit of peace in musical form :-) My next mix will have to equally chaotic to balance things out :-)
Cheers!

This track is great — have listened several times and am still appreciating what you did. I developed a percussive style of acoustic guitar playing after hundreds of hours listening to John Martyn. Your percussion really syncs nicely with the guitar and helps creative a groove over what is, essentially, two chords. And that chorus is now magical. Good work!

Well if you are ever looking for some production work just send me an email. We can trade for guitar lessons :-) I have been a rhythm player all my life and I really want to learn how to make my guitar sing :-) This really is a great place to fertilize the artist soul!
Cheers!

Wow. Goosebumps. No joke. Congrats on the Ed. Pick. This is really wonderful… I feel like I’m at a Rusted Roots concert… listening to one of their slower songs that much of the audience didn’t get, but I shut my eyes and swooned.

I was adrift in the song until the harmonies came in. Then I was uplifted completely. Stunning harmonies. Urgently beautiful. Thank you.

Ever since I was introduced to multitracking I have been blissful immersed in adding harmonies to tracks. I am glad you enjoyed the track :-) I was thinking of attempting one of your tracks soon. Any in particular I should try?
Cheers!

Fun. I’ll leave that to you — I’m sure you’ll find the one that speaks to you.

Yeah, I just listened to this again—KungFu did an amazing job on this, would have been great to do it live.

You’re on! Next time we are within 100 miles of each other we’ll do a two man one time show :-) All seriousness aside :-) I try to things on this site that I can do live. It just extends the possibilities in making this music the best it can be here and elsewhere while developing the craft to that which we have devoted our lives

I’ve been messing around with this song again since revisiting your mix. I feel there is some more mileage in this track, maybe for an extended mix. Also, I was keen to redo my parts, as I felt I could improve on my original. And so I’ve been recording some stuff (including a second guitar part and some Irish whistle impro) and it’s sounding OK, but the song really needs your input—especially those amazing vocals. What do you think? would you be interested in revisiting this? It also crossed my mind that you might do a spoken-word version of Sappho’s lyric? Well, I’m just tossing ideas around. But I’d like to have another bash at this and maybe put the stems out for community mixers. Let me know what you think!

I am all about it :-) Let me know when they are up and I’ll set myself to the task :-) The idea of Sapphoic spoken word sounds great too.
Cheers!

Many thanks for this! My stuff has been uploaded—once KungFu adds his stuff the track should really take off.

Hi and many thanks indeed for this. OK, it’s 7AM here in sunny Eboracum, and I’m about to upload the revised and extended “Sappho” song (I’ll call it “Sappho—I Lie Alone”); the track is now running to 7 minutes, so the mix and stems should be up in the next hour or so. Like I said, I think this song really needs your input—I kinda see it as our song. Anyway, if you could support my dodgy vocal on the choruses that would be great. I’ve also left lots of space between the second and third choruses, in case you want to do a spoken-word, or some ad-libbing, or some soloing. Thanks in advance!
