hey, nice additions you brought to this! vocals sound great with the harmonies and fit the mood really well. yay for songwriters! also, interesting you talk about Salinas, which is in my backyard (less than an hour away). Salinas has definitely changed since the days of Steinbeck, but it’s not nearly as yuppy as you think. Salinas is a very mixed bag, working class farm town, where gangs are a much bigger problem than hummers. Now Monterey, Carmel, and Pacific Grove, that’s another story…anyways, nice job! the vocal style you execute really builds on the “disillusion” of the mix.

yeah well, I didn’t listen to you last night about going to bed.It is a strange clash of people though, migrant workers, hippy farmers, newly moneyed silicon valley workers who dream of making wine. I guess I was using some generalizations to create a mood, I keep getting asked to go to Napa and I keep saying I would rather be in northern Sonoma where is it still wild- of course I say all this while staring into a concrete alley with a view of a 7-11, phone wires, the back of unkempt yards and a rotting cherry blossom tree. I guess I am channeling an uninformed ideal of the lonely west.

haha, your description of Salinas still rings true, despite the influx of people and new wealth. Part of the appeal of Salinas is that it’s one of the few remaining areas around here where people can still afford to buy property. In fact, Victor used to live not far from Salinas as well (Rio Del Mar right VS?) And I agree, Sonoma over Napa anyday!

Kaer - whenever I hear the word “lignification” I think of the Greek myth of Daphne (she was transformed into a tree)…certainly one’s heart turning wooden is a pitiful thing. Your lyrics in this offering are very touching…that coupled with the plaintive vocal and the melancholic and spacey back-up music of Neurowaxx makes a tender, resigned, yet alluring and beautiful song.

Well certainly the word has some serious etymology! I was fascinated by its biological implications, and how those implications could transcend into a metaphor for certain human paths, and pathologies. But really, these Neurowaxx samples are just so breathtaking, I feel a little selfish in changing them at all.

Well you beat me to it!!

When I heard the Neurowaxx sample I just knew I had to do something with it. Seems we’re being spoilt with good samples at the moment!

The thing I like about this is how you have incorporated the additional sounds into the mix making them blend really well.

Your vocals as always are great but I really like that little bit of harmony you’ve added.

As to the grapes well in my part of the world I am lucky to be able to grow them in my garden. They look great but taste like ….!!:)

hey you thnaks, I know you can be particular so it means a lot. I did not upload the vocal harmonies— they had so much reverb on them, when I took off all the fx they sounded like a dog whistle. I am not there yet, technically and don’t have a team of engineers guiding me along, today it was just me, my son, and a hungry turtle sorting through her rocks making too much noise.
BTW if the grapes are that sour they are most likely vinifera- you can probably start making your own wine! Table grapes don’t have enough acidity to ferment into anything decent.

What I like about you Kaer is that you’re not afraid to sincerely be honest and open with your lyrics and voice. You have your own sound and that what makes you truly unique.

oh…I had to look up lignify in the dictionary. I don’t think I’ve ever used that word in my vocabulary! So have you ever tried the Chateau Chevalier Cab? I think it’s awesome!

The shadows grow long in a desert sunset…
Beautifully bleak and hazy. the harmony was a pleasant surprise, don’t be afraid of doing more of it in the future!
