After hearing Briareus’ great remix of this classical pella by the good doctor; I had to have a go.
I was tempted to do the big Euro house treatment but decided to stay true to the genre. The weird thing about this song is that it was one of the truly great original remixes spanning nearly 300 years. Fortunately we have the internet now and its a bit faster. It all started in 1722 with a dude called J.S. Bach with his top of the pops hit Prelude No. 1 in C major from Book I of the Well-Tempered Clavier. (catchy title hey?) 137 years later, even before the music video was released, a French DJ called Charles Gounod added a melody and few bits to bridge the intro to the main theme. Meanwhile, a homeboy called Schubert had been busy mix’n it up in his bedroom in the summer of 1825. A couple of hundred years later, the good Doctor, sung this true to old Franz’s version, but being more familiar with the Bach/Gounod remix I decided to play it to this arrangement. The only real instrument in my mix is the classical guitar, but sorry Anchor, the two violins, viola and the double bass are soft synth, though I think I get away with it most of the time. Keep in mind that I had to match two different versions, so I’ve time stretched the good doctors palette on a few occations and shadowed him with the violin counter melody to cover my mistakes in syncing the pella. Very much out of my comfort zone, so I hope you like. Instrumental posted too. Scomber 2009 x
