~The W(h)ishing of Rain~

This morning, while it was still dark,
I rose from a restless dream
and sat in our lounge room, under the lamp, reading Hesse.

Outside, as darkness dimmed
I felt the light and heard the whishing of rain
willing me out of my seat.

For a long time I stood, nose pressed to cool glass,
watching raindrops fall from the verandah
and splash onto the gate.

Then, back in time I went with the whishing of rain
to another morning of freshness and love
and became, for a moment, a child again.
