About Me
Founded in the early months of 2001 by Andy and Magnus, Jerry-Built kicked off as a side project to their long term, surrey based rock band. Due to unforeseen circumstances that band came to a halt and Jerry-Built launched into full effect with ambitions to create something new. Both Andy and Magnus were eager to get the whole project off the ground and to find the sound they were interested in pursuing. It wasn’t till they recruited Sami and Tall Dave through the local scene, the band became established and a things started happening. At this stage it was clear that the band wanted to create an over driven pop sound with added keyboard and sample effects to provide the sound with more variation. Tim, former member of Surrey’s emo pop band, ‘Jetpak’ (of which Larry from Hundred Reasons was also a member) was last to join the band, adding an extra vocal and another guitar to the mix. Firefly got hold of the demo when they passed on some copies to Kids Near Water at a show at the start of the year and they in turn passed it on to their label thinking that they might be interested in it. They then got another copy sent to us by a friend who thought it would be up their street. Chris Firefly said “We were mightily impressed! It was probably the best demo we had received in the label’s short lifetime and we made plans to see them live. We weren’t disappointed with what we saw catchy as hell songs, great harmonies and a dynamic live show convinced us that Jerry Built were made to be on Firefly.” The debut mini album UPSTARTS was released at the start of 2003 and we started receiving some great reviews. Kerrang described us as ‘the most exciting new band in Britain’ and followed that up by including us in their ’10 Best New Punk Bands in the World’ feature. We’ve built on this by taking our live show around the country – touring and gigging with the likes of Kids Near Water, Garrison, The Lawrence Arms, The Take, Pretty Girls Make Graves, Lightyear and Midtown as well as countless headline shows. We also filmed a video for ‘Receivers’ the lead-off track from Upstarts to coincide with the track’s inclusion on the ‘Louder Than The Crowd’ album that came out on Gut record. This release also featured the likes of Capdown, Funeral For A Friend, Kinesis and The Copperpot Journals. Sammi left the band in march 2004 and Bars (ex Lightyear) joined soon after to play bass. We are currently finishing writing an album which we hope to have recorded soon.
