Tools I Used

Alexis Vortex Keytar, Gibson Les Paul, Fender P-Bass, Akai electronic drum pad, BOSS GT-1, Ignite, Apple GarageBand, Zoom Hn2

Original Samples

A piano part, two guitar parts, a bass part, a drum part, and four vocal parts.

Process

I started with a lyric and a quick recording I had of a chorus on the iPhone. Other than that, I had no inspiration really, when I did this, no great set of changes in my head. So I banged out ten different piano parts into Ignite.

Then I stitched those together in GarageBand until I had something that had good narrative structure, and enough variety in dynamics and changes to make things interesting.

I recorded the four vocals on the Zoom, then the bass. Then I played around with guitar sounds in the GT-1 and lay those down.

Other Notes

Felt like whatshername in the "Not Going to Write You a Love Song" video. :)
