Process

After surveying DoKashiteru’s uploads, decided on two drum/percussion and three bass samples as a foundation for a mix. Selected a few bars of piano to use as an intro and outro. Remembered Ivan Chew’s The Sky (Algiers) backing vox; downloaded that sample from archive.org for use in intro and outro as well.

After structuring the bass, drum and piano samples into a song framework, added some pads and layered on secondary drums tracks. Used two DoKashiteru drum samples together with a kick drum in the section immediately after the break. One of DoKashiteru’s bass samples was processed with Gross Beat to create an altered rhythm then input to an Amplitude wah wah effect. One of DoKashiteru drum/percussion samples was edited to remove pitched sounds. “Bass Line” sample was modified and pitched up as required.

In the intro, a vocoder was used with “the sky_backing vox rev vox” sample as the modulation signal and the piano accompaniment as the carrier signal. The pads were generated using Motion 2.8 and Morphine plugins.

For the break, a Crystal Racetrack sample was used with various RHumphries’ Lemans and Harley samples and some bars from DoKashiteru’s “The Process”.

Before the final mixing commenced, lead lines were added using piano, organ and Roland V-Guitar synth
