Mana is a spiritual quality considered to have supernatural origin. A junkie is an addict. A mana junkie must be someone who craves things others can’t see or choose to ignore.
The seed fractal for this remix is the spoken word piece “I Can’t Dance” by Mana Junkie. It reminded me of the frustrations experienced by lovers in long-distance relationships who spend a fair amount of time on the telephone. I used Logic to build the track and I picked the beat based what worked with MJ’s natural speech rhythm. From there I dialed it into an almost Latin feel with a funk after-taste.
