This is dedicated to my mother and all mothers. The first song is called Pearly Shells. I suddenly remembered this song in its entirety, melody and lyrics, when my mother passed away. She used to sing this lullaby to me when I was an infant. I wasn’t even sure it was a real song or if she made it up, turns out its popular in Hawaii. If anyone ever had a green thumb, it was my Mom. She grew the biggest roses I have ever seen to this day. She used to smile when people would steal a few for their sweethearts. After she passed I got two trees to plant from close friends of mine. One of them grew and the other died. It was a dead twig sticking out of the ground for over a year. I was thinking maybe its time to remove it from the yard. Then, to my amazement on Mother’s day one year it blossomed…even stranger..just for the day.

Somewhere in the middle is an original song I wrote called “Butterfly”. Its based on a poem of an unknown author…”I dreamt I was a butterfly dreaming I was me, I flew to the mirror, there was nothing there to see. You lie! I cried…it woke. I died.
And of course I had to play “Summertime” by George Gershwin. This is probably my favorite song of all time. George Gershwin died of a lepidopterus, a butterfly-shaped brain tumor, same as my mother.

ps: I’ll be uploading alt. mixes of “Butterfly’, Summertime, and ‘Pearly Shells’ here in a little bit.
