In a typical contest, ccMixter is responsible for getting the source material from the co-sponsor and hosting the actual contest while it’s running.
The co-sponsor (the people other than Creative Commons) is responsible for the source material, the prizes and judging so the length of the judging period, picking winners, awarding the prizes, etc. are completely up to the co-sponsor (e.g. Magnatune, Machine Shop, Copyright Criminals, Crammed Discs, etc.). All we (ccMixter and Creative Commons) know is what they tell us regarding the timing of announcing winners and awarding prizes to contest. To be realistic about it: If you’ve won a contest most co-sponsors will contact you directly, mainly for legal reasons (like to make sure you are who you say you are and verify that you haven’t violated any of the terms of the contest). For every one else: It’s ccMixter’s job to tell you about it as soon as we find out. We are not holding back any information from any of the sponsors because it doesn’t serve us to keep that kind of information a secret. I’m sure these and other rationales don’t help when you are sitting anxiously by waiting to hear but we do wish you luck and hope you continue to upload remixes while we all wait for the winners to be announced….
