Upload Throttle

I was uploading stuff and I hit a throttle! I uploaded my Secret Mixter plus one of the extra tracks I made. I was going to upload a pack of the other extras I made but it says I can’t right now.

No big deal! [I understand not allowing the feed to get overwhelmed by an upload spree.] I just wanna know what the timer and general limit is so I’m aware when I can upload that drone pack I have.

Thanks!

Hi PorchCat,

Thanks for hanging in there :)
Yeah, there is a need to keep uploads down for a bit.
Generally, it’s 7 days after your second recent upload (2 per week).

Usually, it would be 2 per week per type, but …
If it says you can’t upload any other type, it means the site is rationing bandwidth/storage.

(Something to note: if you upload a remix with something designated “sample” it counts as both).

Thanks for being a member of the community :)

Kind regards,

Any chance the throttle might get eased a little since uploads have been a bit slow? If that’s not on the table, no worries. Just seems like easing the throttle up to the 3 to 5 range would help boost site activity while keeping things from getting spammed.

Hi PorchCat,

You have a fantastic suggestion and I appreciate you citing the stats table to make your point but …

The number of uploads doesn’t reflect the size and quantity of said uploads.
For example:
*Usually, users will include 320 kpbs preview mp3s and hi-q flacs with their remixes.
(That’s also a lot of bandwidth used for subsequent streams and downloads)

*Samples can include several or more files of varying size, even if they are zips.
(Each time all of that is downloaded, that means more bandwidth being used)

Not to call out any specific users, but I suspect that if they were given the opportunity to upload even more remixes and/or samples, they would definitely do so.

By limiting the number of remixes someone can upload in a week, it gives everyone’s remix a better chance of being seen, especially on the first page.
Can you imagine a page where only three or four artists are featured?

All that being said, this secret mixter is going to significantly spike bandwidth usage.
I’m counting 61 signed-up—that’ll be 61 new uploads within 24 hours!

Hope this helps explain the throttle a little better, we just have to take the big picture into consideration.

Kind regards,
Apoxode
