I recently downloaded a 149 meg professionally recorded sample pack for remixing. I was very happy with the quality of the samples but noticed that every sample was in stereo. Had they been mono samples, I would of had twice as many samples to work with (with the same size sample pack) and be able to process and pan them more easily without affecting other instruments. Why would someone upload a stereo loop of a kick drum and an hi-hat when a mono kick and mono hi-hat would give me a lot more freedom and flexibility? People seem to think that stereo is automatically better. I would like to have a suggestion posted to anyone uploading that not all tracks need to be stereo, in fact, in my opinion most of your samples should be mono with isolated (one instrument per sample) tracks.

you are right!actually you can use a M/S converter plugins (like voxengo,Brainworx)to create mono files and use them.

Do most DAWs not normally have the option to split 1 stereo file into 2 mono anyway?
