ok, i’m reposting this with victor’s blessing this time :)

i just want to give huge props to my friend and fellow songfighter state shirt, who for a number of years has been one of my favorite “indie” (sorry but i hate that word but here it really applies) songwriters and recording artists. personally, i’ve been wanting to remix any one of his songs for some time, and now i can remix any song from his new CD.

i’m a happy camper.

go check out this very talented artist and remix yourself some state shirt. it feels like christmas in november. :)

yea, this one has been a long time coming - he’s exactly the artist I was hoping to snag when we started the site ;)

The stems and esp. the pells are just crazy good. Let’s go nutz

[edit] My favorite things was when he said “is it ok if we also do a ‘call for samples’ so I can use them on the next record?” priceless.

Nice to see the pells and the instrumental stems all neatly packaged together. I wonder if there is any way that these samples could be auditioned right from the page rather than requiring download, save, extract and then listen.

I know Freesound has that option…maybe something for the long range development plan…

Very glad to be part of the site! The remixes and samples that have come in so far are great. I will start posting them on my site this week.

If it makes it any easier to preview stems, I could upload some .mp3 files. Not sure if that’s too many separate files to wade through… lemme know.

yea, you don’t want to pollute and confuse the namespace. it’s a short coming of the site, you’ve done exactly right - except maybe posting dry pells (using ‘add file’) separately - sorry I didn’t spot that earlier.

Thanks everyone for the amazing remixes so far! I’ve got several of them in heavy rotation.

And in case you hadn’t heard, I’m doing a remix contest (ends 12/17):

If you want to be eligible for the prize, make sure to email me and let me know which remix you’d like to submit. :)

i’m a bit confused as i’m seeing a number of recent remixes including “stateshirt” as a tag, but i’m not seeing any attribution to actual source. i’m wondering if this is a “bug by design” or just user error?

a few examples….(not trying to harsh anyone here)

do those remixes contain samples from state shirt?

i guess that’s what i’m wondering, but if they do it’s not attributed.

i think what is happening is whenever anyone submits ANY remix, there’s a box to check about adding to the state shirt sample pool (or something to that regard). i’m wondering if maybe that box is causing confusion. i thought the idea was to trackback new source for mixes using state shirt’s source. but as it appears now, it’s kind of confusing and doesn’t say that.

I thought those were attempts to be included for state shirt’s remixing pleasure. But that would seem to make more sense with uploaded samples rather than remixes of somebody else, which can get a bit messy from a licensing perspective.

And therefore yes, I think people have been confused as how to use that little tag. Or if I’m wrong, then I have been confused! :-)

he. i’m confused most of the time. :)

i just figured if state shirt wanted to use ANY source, he could just pull it like everyone else does.

that said, i’m not sure the check box could somehow be attached only to stateshirt’s source (as opposed to any remix). but i think that would be the solution if it was possible. otherwise, stateshirt will be weeding through alot of source (via his tags) that might have nothing to do with his.

of course, i could still be confused….

me too! :-)

yeah, but I’m guessing he’s looking for more musical interaction with his fans. i.e. he will work with samples people send his way specifically for the purpose of him using them. i.e. fans specifically get to influence his music.

imho, that’s a fabulous concept!

I used to uncheck the box for completely random remixes by new people to the site that don’t have stems associated with them but I’ve been traveling extra heavy this week so I’m sure several have slipped through. Either of you can feel free to uncheck it for those random cases - it would be a big help.

p.s. and ok, I’ll try to pick up as I see it as well :-)

Hey everyone, I’m starting to post stems and a cappellas from my older albums up here as well. If you’re up for a remix, have at it!

Thanks
