Confused about Allowed Remixes

I think I’m a little confused. I have created a remix, technically named since I use a 30-second part of a piece by “Ion” as part of the background for my music. My confusion lies in that I obtained the piece from Magnatune, who I believe is a partner with CCMixter. However, when attempting to submit my remix and give the proper credit to the artist I find Ion is not listed and so I cannot offer my submission. Are only selected artists listed as allowed sources or is Ion inadvertently missing from the list? According to the Magnatune site, this music is offered for remix by CCMixter specifically. Or at least that’s what I believe it is saying.

Can someone please clarify?

Great! For some reason, I am like the Steve Martin movie about “the new phone books are here” when the magnatune catalog is updated—although I shop regularly there, there’s something about hunting songs to remix that really makes the catalog things stand out.

So just to be clear, are we allowed to upload tracks that use samples from the CCMixter & affiliates sample pool as well as samples from elsewhere? I’m missing strong vocal hooks, which I think I might be able to get from Jamendo…

as long as you get permission from the people you are sampling, either explicitly allowing you to re-license a derivative work under CC (as in: they send you an email that says “Sure! Use our samples in your remix that post to ccMixter and license under CC”) or implicitly through a compatible license (as in: the samples are already under CC Attribution or CC NonCommercial).

Great - thanks! I was worried because the upload system only handles attribution for tracks in the sample pool. I’ll put other attributions in the Description section then.
