F***ing awesome mix…I hated the whole Daft Punk thing at the time but find it ultra cool now…obviously I’m backwards by about 15 years, lol. Very cool track bro

Same here. As I’ve got older I rather like music with some memories attached, good and bad, rather like cheddar I find many tunes mature with age. Unfortunately , whilst it’s a reasonable premise, not the most advantageous viewpoint in the fashion conscious music biz :( |

Never loved Daft Punk either. Someone told me to listen to their latest ‘groundbreaking’ CD. I clicked through it feeling completely apathetic. There are parts of the signature DP sound in here, the vocoder for instance but this track is so much more danceable, playful, lusty and inventive than anything they would do.

I’ve been into EDM for the last year as my other half likes it, it’s also her studio :) There’s some interesting stuff- including acts like Rudimental and Wilkinson who’ve been doing much the same as I have with drum&bass for the last ten years- as a pioneer of the genre it’s very nice to see vocal d&b making it mainstream. Calvin Harris is very talented but I find his music on the robotic and coldly sterile side. The real stars are Naughty Boy and in particular Avicii, the latter is one of the best creative talents from Sweden since Abba. You Made Me is a fantastic track all around. Oddly, EDM doesn’t sound good on ecstasy, which being older I rarely use these days, just about the only drug that really makes it sound wicked is Quetiapine, an antidepressent prescription drug. Of course all drugs can be very dangerous, and though many in dance use them, I’d not recommend starting them to anyone! The most recent Daft Punk lineup - as on Random Access Memories, adds Chic’s Nile Rodgers and guest vocalist Pharrell on a few which puts a new swing on things. altogether. Glad you like the song, and feel free to add your own personal recommendations. :) |

Been listening to edm a lot too lately. Being Swede myself I’ve of course taken interest in country fellows like Avicii, SHM, Alesso, Otto Knows et all. I’ve got most hopes for Avicii for the future, 24 and already a genius. Of the SHM guys I’m mostly curious about what Axwell will do now that they’ve split, he’s very much into melodies and I like that. Listened to a very long, 1,5 hours interview with one of the others, Steve Angello just the other day, they are great guys those three, really down to earth people despite the private jets. Steve does harder stuff and that will be interesting too. Of the British major dance acts I think Chase & Status are in a league of their own. Love their latest album and the track ‘Lost and not Found’ inspired this track that I did back in the summer.

Chase and status are rather good, Disclosure do a similar sort of thing. Something similar to that style was popular originally in the UK around 1999. You might like to check out Craig David and Artful Dodger, and the superb but one-hit-wonder act Sweet Female Attitude.
A few of my own produced demos from around time are in that style. http://www.jamendo.com/en/t... http://www.jamendo.com/en/t... hope you enjoy. Loved the track you mention of your BTW, have indeed mixed it myself! |

Can’t help it, I’m a bit stuck in the turn-of- the-century 2 step. Very familiar with Craig David and Artful Dodger.
And yes, I know you remixed “Orange” That mix was better than my own version. Must check out Sweet Female Attitude, very promising name. Your Jamendo tracks are great, geez, you’re productive. |
