Bob this is great—seriously! Not only the playing but the very sound. Reminds me of Ry Cooder and all that’s cool about American music. Maybe the Fender Strat is America’s big gift to the world? Also makes me remember that when I was a kid I used to dream about owning a Fender. When I was 10 my parents wouldn’t buy me a guitar because they needed all money for food. I went around selling my toys and eventually raised £10. I bought the only guitar I could afford—a cheap and nasty classical guitar. I’m left handed and this beast was right handed. I restrung it left hand and taught myself to play a bit. I later graduated to an ancient acoustic with a huge gash in the side, picked up from a junk shop. Later I traded it in for an anonymous electric guitar but I didn’t have an amplifier—I used to plug it into an old valve-powered reel-to-reel tape machine. My mate wanted to play the drums but could only afford a pair of sticks, which he used to tap rhythms on an old Calor Gas stove. At that time we were very into Yes, Focus and Jethro Tull (which, thinking about it, all featured humbucking Gibson-playing axemen). As the years passed I bought slightly better guitars but never did get a Fender!

Just as a note of interest I’m left handed too and so I started off playing a home converted right hander. The first new left handed guitar I bought c1969 was one of these wish I still had it.

Hey thanks for that—great video clip! Cool guitar with a great sound!

Best electric guitar I ever owned was an early Tokai Telecaster copy (c. 1980), which I had to sell when I needed cash.

I currently own a (very) cheap Ibanez semi-acoustic, an anonymous (extremely) cheap acoustic, and a Washburn electro-acoustic.

We have several good guitar shops where I live, plus a world-class guitar maker (Dave Gregory), but I can’t afford my grocery bills, let alone a new guitar—for me, changing strings is a yearly event!
