The title of your song “By the time I reached Matilda” made me think about the 1959 swamp blues anthem “ Mathilda” by Cookie and his Cupcakes. For one of Huey “Cookie” Thierry’s last performances, I was hired to play with the Cupcakes and the opening act. The promoter rented a hall (seats about 1000) in the middle of nowhere east Texas. The full house was there to hear Cookie sing Mathilda. “By the time I reached” the Mathilda gig it was almost too late to load my equipment on to the stage. After a firm berating by the promoter at the stage door, all was well and fine time was had by all. Cookie died shortly after the gig. I did not know him. I was just the hired help.

Of course, your song sounds nothing like “Mathilda” ‘;0) Your song title just brought back the memory of what happened by the time I reached a last chance to play Mathilda with Cookie.
