Excellent songwriting. Passionate, strong performance. Important lyrics.
This verse is so powerful and true: Now there’s a peace that comes with silence—how I long to hear that sound— but at this moment silence spells complicity along with fear and subjugation and the quiet of the grave… Raise up your voice aloud and make reality! Powerful, artful words and a strong, emotional vocal performance. I’d rather imagine a new world too, instead of buying a gun. It’s strange, the disparity between the viewpoints but we have to keep holding a state of love. I also search for the peace of silence, but yes, things are different now. I’m grateful for people like you, who are willing to try to make the world a better place.

We try. This came out of a conversation between my daughter…who’s been marching in Astoria, NY…and one of her friends…whose dad and neighbor in Pittsburgh both went out and bought guns “for self-defense” during the BLM protests. I had shared other lyrics with her that I was struggling to make work. They had a horrified laugh over the difference between their dads, and I told her she’d practically written my next song.
