god this is beautiful. the lyrics are so raw and well, really really. your voice is so beautiful and sincere. very cool how you laid the vocals over each other. just lovely.

Thank you snowflake :) Your music seems to be a fountain of emotive material so your comments are especially kind. I am constantly surprised how much emotion can be communicated in the voice. I was almost brought to tears when I recorded this and as much as I wanted to I could not bring myself to re-record it without the blubbering :) Instead I just used the Admiral`s track to play us out while I recovered. Thanks again for your kind words.

You are too kind. I’m a music therapist by education and recently again by trade so I guess it was just a great reminder of how often music can stir, settle, and heal :)
Thank you again for all your work here! You are an incredible spark! |

It is an amazing community. I have missed you all dearly in the last (less ccM-active) few months. I am putting together some therapeutic music-based tools personal use if anyone on here wants to be a guinea pig for the service :-)
Thank you again for all the work you do for the community! Cheers! |

This is quite amazing KungFu! Your voice sounds a bit different. I like the quality of it more this way than the deeper.

The vocal change is in part rustiness (more non-musical work lately:) and part trying to blend and/or contrast the Admiral backing track. I never want to ‘nail’ my vocal sound to one style or genre so I’ll take that as encouragement :) Thanks again for the kind words.

Enjoyed the remix and also your thought processes. Nice. Very nice.

I felt I was rambling too much as it was but there is a lot of back-story to that mix. One bit of that back-story was the ending line “I was going to check if you were ok, then I saw your camera” came from a police officer who stopped me on the side of the road because I was taking pictures. She thought my Jeep was broken down so she pulled over and that it what she said :) A nice bit of poetry I thought. In the song I translated it to a time when my father was dying and it came time for the people that he loved to say goodbye. It’s not an easy thing to do but one that must be done. Needless to say my father was a big part of my artistic tendencies and every time I go through the processes of photography I think of him. So I guess the line “…then I saw your camera” is like an emotional check-in… Are you ok with grief? I guess the answer is yes :)
Thank you for giving me excuse to ramble as a fellow of the ramblers anonymous I thought you would approve :) Cheers! |

I wondered about that last line. Thanks for elucidating. Incidentally, I too was once confronted by the police while taking pictures. Mine was not a pleasant experience as I had apparently inadvertently taken a picture of the van they were just about to go on a drug bust with. I think they must of been all coked up for the bust, anyway they treated me like a criminal, which was weird and scary ‘cause I honestly didn’t know what was going on until I told the story later to someone who had a friend on the force. (Hey, now I’m a rambler.)

Fine mix. The vocal overlays effectively enhance the almost unbearable emotion of it all and the transition into the Admiral ending is seamless. It would be wrong to say I enjoyed it, more true - I felt it.

You are too kind sire! I was wondering if it was all over-the-top but I glad it fell on appreciative ears :)

Really a beautiful creation, and I’m awed that, lyrically, it arose from a couple of lines in the song - a totally new thing, a thistle rooted in them. And then it transitions into my piece, giving it a new sense and meaning.
Thanks for this! |

Like most of these Secret Mixter mash-ups I hope (possibly worry a little) that the mixée appreciates the final result. The words in your song spoke to me rather strongly (as you might be able to tell) and there was more than enough musical content to make a dozen songs :-) it came easily as an idea and was a difficult one to record all that to say I am glad you liked it!
Cheers Mr. Admiral! |
