You have a great songwriting skill. Was wondering who was Tina Gill but google found nothing particular. ;-)

Thanks for this. Yeah, she was in my school class when I was about six. Her parents had a tiny “corner” shop where my mum bought me sweets. Today I passed that shop, which is now converted into a tiny house. I remembered Tina and wrote this song on the way home. “Nothing wrong” is a sort of “Northern compliment” from my childhood — instead of saying someone/something was “awesome” we’d say there was “nothing wrong” or in dialect “nowt wrong”. A “moggy” is an old cat. “Bobby Moore” was captain of the England football team in 1966. “Weetabix” was a breakfast cereal I had as a kid. The song is really an elegy for childhood and days gone by. Now there are no corner shops as such — instead there are supermarkets selling a vast choice of crap from the four corners of the globe.

Cool memories.
When I was 6 years old there was a crazy commie general ravaging in my country, tanks and police on the streets beating people that didn’t like that system. I barely remember those days. Had the luck to live in a small town that was away from all that hassle. That was the same time when Margaret Thatcher was against unions in the UK. Funny thing is she supported greatly Solidarity movement unions in Poland that fought with communism. In 1989 communism collapsed and people in the unions formed new goverments that also led to destruction of many small business. So here are less and less small shops and more supermarkets either.

Interesting—thanks for this. I heard that lots of Polish workers lost their jobs after communist government was beaten? Thatcher died recently and I was amused to hear some UK politicians crediting her with defeating communism—I think Lech Walesa would have something to say about that! Polish history is tragic, heroic, and enough to make me sometimes ashamed.
