Paints a picture well. I had to listen once for the story and again for the bass/guitar. All excellent.

Thanks so much Speck. A double listen? The Babies will rot your mind, ya know ;-)

I love your story. It’s so right that magic can be found anywhere if you know how to look for it. Your words are funny (made me laugh out loud), touching, vivid and true. A great one for this time of year and evaluating what’s important. xxxx

“It’s so right that magic can be found anywhere if you know how to look for it.”
That was my goal with this one. Thank you :) |

I know how tough it can be to line up parts for these freeform Bill Ray parts. But you make it sound effortless, esp. since the bass and guitar are tight with each other. Great Max Websterish lead break, too.

Max Webster… That’s an obscure one. I came to them through Rush. I know they used to tour together quite a bit in Canada, and that there was some interplay as to songwriting. As far as playing with Bill’s drums… That’s how I learned to play gtr and bass: By playing with a live drummer. I suppose it’s a bit of a comfort zone for me, in that I’m always listening to the drummer…. anticipating his/her next move. Thanks for reviewing, Admiral!

I couldn’t help it — images of Gollum as portrayed by Andy Serkis — dark, sad, and speaking of himself in the the plural first person.

What an interesting perspective, my precious. I love it! It hadn’t occurred to us that it could be see as such. “They cursed us, and we wept to be so alone… And we forgot the taste of bread, the sound of trees.” That’s from memory so the wording may be off. I feel a real empathy for Gollum. He understands addiction and suffering. He wants to be good and tries to reform, but he is taken. That is very close to my story, minus the magic. Thank you for reviewing, SackJo22 :)

Bill Ray’s drumming & your guitar & vocal on this are brilliant! ‘heavy mental’ to the max. your choices in the mix are very well done, too. all the best in the new year, Mr. Babies.

“Heavy Mental”…. I may have to steal that phrase from you :) Thank you for always being there to support me, Mr. Moon. I know I’ve missed a lot during my extended absences. I am trying……

I guess you have to be a (real) musician to play along with Bill Ray (whose drumming is again pretty excellent) and you pulled it off equally excellent once again. All the best for the new year, Joe.

Thanks Sub :) I’m no more real than anyone else here. I’m all for VSTs and drum-machines, love ‘em in fact; But it’s not my strong point. Bill’s sample would have been extremely difficult to map using sequences, so I took the easy road: Guitar and bass. I believe I need to move away from that a bit…. broaden my horizons. Thank you so much for the listen and review. Happy New Year!

Great interpretation following the drums. Any way you can upload the bass?
|

Glad you dig the song, copperhead. I’m afraid it’s quite impossible for me to upload the bass at this time. You see… My main computer’s hard drive is showing an error. The thing will not even boot. Damn shame too, as I was working on a real blaster of a song when it happened. When I get the money, I’m going to take it to a data recovery business. I’ve a ton of stuff on that drive that I’d hate to lose forever.
